"Quit worrying about the stupid things. You have 4 years to be irresponsible. Relax. Work is for people with jobs. You'll never remember class time, but you'll remember time hanging out with your friends. So stay out late, go out on a Tuesday night when you have a paper due, Wednesday. Spend money you don't have. Drink until sunrise. The work never ends... school does. "
I read this as I was entering college, and it pretty much echoed in my head as the years passed by, er flew by. Sure, you can study all day and night and earn those high marks, but at the end, what are you left with? An 8x11 piece of paper that cost $20,000? Cool beans amigo. Granted, I do absorb info a bit quicker than some, and definitely did not study as much as I should have, but I had a fucking blast. There is not a night that did not warrant some sort of celebration. There are numerous nights where me and my closest friends sat on the roof drinking the sky blue, then wandering down to the beach a few hours later to continue. Bartenders know me by name, and usual drink of choice. Bar owners hand me rounds on that house thanks to my loyal patronage. Most professors will fade in my memory, while the quality few truly have changed my outlook on life and raised my IQ. They are the ones that truly love their job, and inspire me to take after my future vocation with the same passion.
I've lived in Marquette for several years now, and it really has changed the way I live my life. Always something to do, and someone down to do it with. Beers on the beach? YES. Go ski first chair to last call? Double yes? Midnight drunken longboarding/tomfoolery/rowdiness? Double Fuck YEs! I cant go anywhere in this town without being reminded of some shenanigans or friendly faces.
So, as I begin on my 23rd year tmmrw, Im looking towards the future, and smiling about the past
